Crochet for Him: 10+ Crochet Patterns for Men This Fall & Winter

A cosy autumn/winter crochet guide featuring masculine and unisex giftable makes, from classic sweaters and vests to timeless polos and accessories for him (and everyone else).
The fiber arts community, like many creative spaces, tends to have more women than men. As a result, you can easily find thousands of beautiful, feminine patterns, but it’s a little harder to find designs that feel more masculine, neutral, or unisex.
Thankfully, our approach to clothing is becoming more open and genderfluid. Patterns that are made to measure or designed with simplicity and versatility in mind help fill that gap.
One of my favourite things about crochet is the ability to make something meaningful : thoughtful, handmade, and full of time and care. Naturally, I want to do that for my partner, brother, and other loved ones just as much as for my mother or girlfriends.
After much pattern hunting, I have put together my autumn/winter shortlist for giftable, wearable pieces that feel timeless, stylish, and inclusive.
Staple Sweaters
These are the everyday classics: textured, cosy, and wearable with just about anything.
Erin B.’s Crochet Sweater Tutorial
This design looks wonderfully cosy and textured and good texture always makes a handmade piece feel extra polished. It’s simple enough to let the yarn colour shine but interesting enough to stay engaging as you work.

Devon Sweater by TheCrocheting
The Devon has that perfect “in-between” fit : not too tight, not too loose. It’s another go-to wardrobe piece that works equally well with jeans or layered over a shirt.

Winter Wonder Cable Unisex Pullover by MJsOffTheHookDesigns
This one features cables in a clean, modern silhouette. It’s a little more fitted than Erin B.’s design. I can really picture it in burnt orange or deep burgundy for a warm autumn feel.

Special Sweaters
When you want something a bit more intricate or with personality… these are the standouts.
Meara Fisherman Sweater by Hopeful Honey
Available free online (or as a paid ad-free PDF), this is a showstopper. I’m currently making mine for my partner in Stylecraft Wool Blend, colour “Succulent”, a midtone earthy green that feels perfect for the season. The stitches look beautifully complex but the pattern is surprisingly approachable and fun, even for confident beginners.

Frosted Isles Jumper by BabyCrochetDesignsUK
From 0–3 months to 3XL adult, this pattern’s inclusive sizing makes it perfect for family matching. It’s my pick for a Christmas sweater: colourful, quirky, and cheerful without crossing into “ugly sweater” territory. You can really have fun with the yoke colours on this one.

Fisken Coat by WAVELENGTHSByEmilie
Technically a coat, but I couldn’t leave it out! This unisex oversized design can be worked in different lengths for either a coat or jacket look. Stick to one colour for a classic vibe, or add contrasting pockets for something playful. It even comes in kids’ sizes, ideal for matching family sets.

Polos
Because nothing says timeless charm like a good classic crochet polo.
Erin B.’s Crochet Polo Tutorial
I love a vintage-inspired silhouette, and this chunky polo has just the right mix of nostalgia and wearability. It’s relaxed, comfortable, and perfect for layering.

Alpine Polo Crochet Shirt by @edwinja
This one is pure luxury. I have had the yarn ready (a rich chocolate brown) for months! The mix of stitches and textures (even on the collar) makes it look like something straight out of a high-end boutique. I’ll probably wait until my skills level up a bit before I attempt it, but it’s high on my must-make list.

Vests
Vests are back in full force, and crochet ones are especially satisfying due to their minimal shaping, lots of texture, and great layering potential.
Vest “Morning Fog” by Valentina Lefterova
A Tunisian crochet design that’s simple, timeless, and versatile. I recently ordered Drops Soft Tweed in “Spinach Pie”, a dark green-black, and can’t wait to start (hopefully early next year if I’m being realistic).

Driftwood Vest by KayKrochets
Another Tunisian crochet gem. The shape is completely unisex and the stitchwork is beautifully detailed. I would stick with a solid colour to really let the texture stand out. It’s one of those pieces that looks effortlessly high-quality.

Miscellaneous Makes
Because no cold-weather crochet lineup is complete without the smaller things that make the season cosy.
Short Row Hat
A classic, neat hat that’s simple yet satisfying to make. The short-row construction keeps it interesting without being fussy. It’s also perfect as a quick project or a thoughtful handmade gift when you don’t have time for a full sweater.

Diamonds in the Rough Scarf by Michael Snow
A subtle, textured Tunisian crochet scarf featuring diamond motifs. It’s designed to complement other garments rather than compete with them. The pattern is Free on Ravelry.

Men’s Sock Yarn Gloves by Stacey Tallman
I have been meaning to try making socks and gloves. These gloves are made in sock yarn, giving them stretch and a snug fit. Each glove is worked in two pieces (back and palm) and then joined. They use a simple stitch that mimics little knitted cables.

Wrapping Up
As much as I love feminine designs, there’s something really rewarding about finding crochet patterns that feel inclusive and wearable for everyone. From oversized fisherman sweaters to sleek Tunisian vests, these patterns strike the balance between thoughtful craftsmanship and modern style.
I can’t wait to work through this list, learn new technics and hopefully gift a few along the way.
