Best Products for Fine Wavy Hair: My Tried-and-Tested Routine

My hair is fine, wavy, and a little frizz-prone so over the years I’ve tried plenty of shampoos, conditioners, and oils. A few really stood out, the ones I keep going back to because they feel good and actually work. In this post, I’m sharing the products I love, how I use them, and the simple routine that keeps my waves soft, defined, and happy without too much fuss.
My hair is fine and wavy. It is pretty low maintenance but prone to frizz and dryness, which it experiences regularly. Over the years, I tried a lot of products and only remember the ones I liked enough to repurchase or that had something memorable. Henna deserves its own article, so I won't touch on it here.
Washing
I like a variety of shampoos, both solid and liquid. Here are my favorites, in order of preference and by brand:
Lush
Godiva, which is so moisturising it does not need a conditioner
Jason and the Argan Oil
Coconut Rice Cake
Trichomania
Faith in Nature
Shea and Argan, which is perfect for my partner’s very dry curly hair as well
Other favourites
Cantu sulfate-free cleansing cream, smells like a tropical vacation
Dop le shampooing tres doux a l’amande douce Bio, does not need conditioner
Garnier Ultra Doux shampooing doux a l’amande et fleur de lotus. Obsessed with this one for years, the smell is amazing!
Conditioning and Moisturising
Lush: American Cream, Revive (formerly RnB)
Faith in Nature: all the matching conditioners, especially Shea and Argan
Garnier Ultimate Blends: Avocado and Shea Repair Cream. Moisturising enough for my hair, my partner’s hair, and even my brother’s hair (different doses, different hair types, still amazing)
Natural oils like Monoi, coconut, or Argan I use sparingly, often overnight as a mask.
Shaping
Most days, washing, conditioning, and moisturising is enough. Sometimes hair feels flat or fuzzy and needs definition. I tried some crunching gels but most are too heavy or leave a weird texture. Curl Jelly by Umberto Giannini works perfectly. It gives hold and definition without feeling gross or stiff, and is easy to travel with.

How It All Works
Day before washing, I do an overnight mask with one of my oils and massage my scalp. I then shampoo and condition as usual.
This part actually matters: keeping hair soaking wet, apply curl jelly if I want curls and hold, or Garnier repair cream if I want moisture. Flip hair forward, scrunch product in (squeeze the water out). I use a Microfibre towel to help reduce frizz. If I use curl jelly, I add a touch of Lush Revive for smell and moisture, even the day after to refresh waves.
Masks are not every wash, maybe once a month. Post-workout washes use Cantu cleansing cream or Ayurvedic powders as a soft “no poo” option.
SIDENOTE: I also tried and used Lush's Super Milk and Avocado co wash. They smell very similar and are both nice products but not 'wow' enough to be repurchased in my opinion. Revive is far superior to Super Milk in every way. Lush has a coconut co wash I do want to try as I tend to like coconut products and thought avocado co wash was handy for when I have to wash my hair more than I would like during the week.
