Fibers & Care Instructions
A gentle guide to tending your handmade heirloom pieces
Your heirloom piece may be made from one or a blend of the following yarns. Each has been chosen with care, for its texture, warmth, softness, and timeless character.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PIECE
Soft Felt Slippers (100% wool)
Everyday Care
- Let slippers air out after each wear
- Shake gently to remove dust
- Use a soft brush to refresh the surface if needed.
Washing Felted Slippers
Felted wool is stable, but still needs gentle handling.
How to wash:
- Use a cold or warm gentle cycle (30°C / 86°F).
- Wash with a large terry towel to protect the shape.
- Use a mild wool detergent.
- Do not use fabric softener
- Spin at 800–1000 RPM.
After Washing
- Remove slippers as soon as the cycle ends.
- Reshape by hand: adjust toe, heel, and top of the foot.
- Slip them on your feet for a few seconds to help set the form.
- Lay flat on a towel and air-dry completely.
- Keep away from heaters or tumble dryers.
Storage
- Store in a dry, ventilated place.
- Avoid airtight plastic bags.
- Cotton pouches or open shelves work best.
Extra Tips
- Fully felted slippers won’t shrink much, but hot water or heat can distort the shape.
- If they feel a little loose over time, one short gentle wash with a towel can help firm them up, use this only when needed.
If your item is made of 100% wool
- Hand wash gently in cool water (max 30 °C, ideally cold)
- Use a mild wool-safe detergent
- Avoid rubbing or wringing — wool may felt (becomes hard and fibers merge together)
- Reshape carefully and lay flat to dry
- Keep away from heat sources (radiators, sunlight, tumble dryers)
If your item is made of wool & alpaca blend
- Hand wash in cold water (up to 30 °C)
- Use gentle motions, alpaca fibres are delicate
- Do not twist or stretch
- Lay flat to dry and shape softly
- Store folded in a breathable fabric bag
If your item is made with cotton, mohair & silk blend
- Hand wash only, in cold water with a wool/mohair-safe detergent
- Move slowly in the water, no agitation
- Do not soak for long periods
- Gently press excess water out using a towel
- Lay flat to dry, away from sunlight
- Do not tumble dry
- Expect a natural, soft halo to develop over time. It is part of the charm.
If your item is made of cotton ribbon or recycled cotton t-shirt yarn
- Hand wash gently in cool water using a mild, non-bleach detergent.
- Avoid it but If machine washing is preferred, place the item inside a garment bag and use a delicate cycle.
- Avoid wringing or twisting. Press out water using a clean towel.
- Lay flat to dry, reshaping the bag or accessory while damp to maintain its silhouette.
- Do not tumble dry! Heat can warp the fibers and alter structure.
- Avoid hanging the item when wet or storing it under heavy weight, as cotton-based yarns can stretch slightly over time.
Tip : upon receiving your new bag, spray them with protective waterproof CLEAR spray (the same type you would use for leather shoes) to make it stain resistant.
If your item is made of premium acrylic
- Machine wash on a delicate or wool cycle if needed
- Use cool or lukewarm water
- Avoid high spin speeds and fabric softeners
- Lay flat or air-dry, avoid tumble dryers for best longevity
IN GENERAL (ALL HANDMADE PIECES)
- Hand wash is always safest.
- Think of it as a quiet ritual, not a chore.
- Use a gentle detergent made for wool or delicate fibres.
- Avoid pulling or stretching.
- Crochet has a natural structure that prefers soft handling.
- Dry flat.
- Hanging can distort shape over time.
- Keep away from harsh heat.
- No radiators, tumble dryers, or direct sunlight.
- Store with kindness.
- Fold softly and keep in a breathable cotton bag.
- For wool items, you may add a lavender sachet or cedar block to deter moths.
